Waterman 54 9kt Solid Gold Bands Oblique Broad
Here we have a rare Waterman 54 Ripple with solid 9kt gold bands on the barrel that are hallmarked. Unfortunately the cap is has heavy color loss, and a clip that isn't perfectly straight, but has excellent tension. The lever is not original, but is a replacement which does not affect the functionality of the pen. Pen is fitted with a smooth writing Oblique Broad that gives line variation. For those not familar with Obliques, they are like a stub where the horizontal stroke is thin while the downstroke is thick. The biggest difference between the two is that the Oblique tip has a slight angle to it giving folks that naturally want to turn the pen a little the perfect "foot" on the tip for contact with paper. The angle is slight on this one so it's just a very small turn towards the left which is what most right handers naturally do anyway. Read more about nib tips from the great Richard Binder. You can see the line variation this pen gives in the writing sample. It almost looks like a flex pen wrote that! The nib is a super smooth Waterman's Ideal #4 nib. Writing sample is done on .5cm grid 90 gsm Clairefontaine paper. Measurements: 13.5cm capped, 17cm posted, and 13cm unposted.
